The original low pressure fuel sensor design placed it a little too close to the engine and the excessive engine vibrations caused it to fail. BMW released an updated pressure sensor design with an updated fuel line which relocated the sensor a bit farther away. Along with that, they changed it from an o-ring to a tapered compression fit. But, that fuel line is rather expensive and you can just get an adapter to put the new sensor on the old line. Will this eventually cause the new part to fail since it's still close to the engine? Perhaps, but I'm ok with that as it's super easy to change. You can replace the whole line if you'd like to, it's up to you! Hey guys, I’m the 50sKid. In this video I’m chasing down low pressure fuel system codes on my E90 BMW with the N54. I’m seeing 2AAF (fuel pump plausibility), a low pressure fuel system code, and I’m staring at what looks like 48 psi on the low side when it “should” be around 72 psi. After digging around online, I decided the low pressure fuel sensor was the most likely culprit, so I show you how to get access to it without pulling the intake manifold—airbox/intake pipe off, throttle body out, and then the sensor is right under there. I also walk through BMW’s updated sensor design and the whole adapter situation: the new sensor is meant for the updated line (tapered compression fit), but you can run an adapter to use it on the old line. I’ll be honest: it’s still close to the engine, so maybe it’ll fail again someday, but it’s super easy to change and I’m fine with that. Then, because I’m already in there and these pumps die eventually, I go ahead and replace the in-tank low pressure fuel pump too (and yes—do it with the tank nearly empty, don’t be like me). The big twist: my scan tool was showing a unit conversion bug (kPa to psi), so the “48 psi” wasn’t actually 48 psi. In the end, the low pressure sensor swap did clear the low pressure code, and the pump was solid preventative maintenance—plus we learned to sanity-check the data before throwing parts at it.
