In this video I’m giving my exclusively breastfed baby formula for the first time, and honestly I was nervous. I’ve been pumping and breastfeeding for 4 months, but my supply has dipped so low that I can barely pump 2 oz, so we needed to substitute with formula. I’m still figuring out what formula to go with, but today we tried SMade Gold and I walked you through exactly how I mixed it. I had about 60 ml of pumped breast milk and wanted to make a 90 ml bottle total, so I topped it up with 30 ml of hot water and one scoop of formula (I think one scoop equals 30 ml). I literally felt like I was doing a little science experiment—shaking it up, letting it cool to room temp, and then seeing how my baby reacted. The big takeaway: he didn’t seem to know the difference at first, but then he started holding it in his mouth and fussing, so I’m asking you guys if that’s normal. Also: once baby has drank from the bottle, you have to discard it straight away—so be careful using your breast milk because every little drop counts.
