Every time I’m in a new country, I have to try the McDonald’s—so at 11:00 p.m. in Shanghai (during Lunar New Year!), I did a full little menu adventure. I’m showing you what’s different, what’s surprisingly cute, and what’s honestly kind of wild compared to what we’re used to. They had special Lunar New Year deals, a “sharing bucket” (have you seen that before?!), and some of the most unique items I’ve ever spotted at McDonald’s. We ordered a proper feast—shrimp/prawn burger, golden lucky twister fries, different chicken wings (including spicy and honey barbecue glaze), a crispy chicken and bamboo shoot wrap combo, and even a sausage and beef burger combo that looked crazy. I also loved the little details like the fancy receipt and the pickup code area for takeaway. Taste-wise, the honey barbecue chicken looked super juicy, the chicken was really flavorful, and the prawn burger had mustard in it. Not going to lie though—because they were getting ready to close, some things (like the fries) weren’t the freshest, and one burger looked a bit dry. Still, for a birthday night in Shanghai, it was delicious and such a fun way to experience the local twist on fast food.
