In this one I head into Richmond, North Yorkshire — proper postcard stuff on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales — and just take the day nice and slow. I wander around Richmond Castle for the big views and the history, then drop down to the abbey ruins for a quieter vibe. It’s one of those places where you can easily fill a day without rushing, and I also have a little mooch in the local charity shops because… you never know what you’ll find. To finish it off, I roll into an absolutely cracking free overnight park-up right by the River Swale. It’s calm, it’s scenic, and you’ve got that constant sound of the water which is basically vanlife white noise. If you’re planning a UK van trip and you like market towns, old stones, and a free spot that actually feels like a treat, Richmond is well worth sticking on your route.
