About This Video

Part 2 of our Corridor to Dunes run takes us from the mountains down into a totally different kind of terrain—Ilocos Norte sand dunes. Once we linked up in Laoag (with Peds, plus Alec and Tito Dodi joining the convoy), we aired down and started carving lines through the dunes. It was fast, loose, and unforgiving, and at one point we literally lost the convoy lead. With weak radio and almost no signal, we ended up circling the dunes and relying on pure trail sense until Jim, Lance, and JM popped out like a mirage and did a quick search-and-rescue to bring us back together. After the dunes, we pushed further north to Bangui and camped at 18° North Camping Cafe and Diner. In the morning I showed my current rig setup—removed my bed slide to gain a bit of clearance (leaf springs upgrade coming), and I’m now running a 40L Kings Escape fridge so I don’t have to do ice runs anymore. I also shared a key sand-driving takeaway: traction control will kill momentum in soft sand, so I had to go 4L with rear diff lock to fully shut TRC off. We wrapped the trip with the Patapat Viaduct scenic drive and an up-close stop at the Bangui Windmills—end of the road, end of the chapter, but the journey doesn’t really end.
