In this video, I took our 4x4s up Mt. Balagbag for a simple crawl and chill—calm at the top, chaos on the way down. I packed the last bits of gear, met up with Andy and Alex, aired down early for the rough roads, then registered at the jump-off before switching to 4L and crawling up. The trail already gave us an “appetizer” with an eroded section, then we hit the technical parts: a sharp washed-out rocky turn and a rocky ascent to the helipad. Once we reached the summit, we set up camp, ate, laughed, and I even used Andy’s side awning to test-fit the King’s Universal Bag—then repurposed it as a safe storage for Kai’s crocs after we spotted a snake. The next day turned foggy and drizzly, and the rain just wouldn’t stop—so we packed up early and started descending while it was still manageable. The plan was slow and steady, but the trail became deep ruts and slippery clay, and I hesitated on a slide which pushed my front driver tire into the ruts. With thick clay caking the tires, traction was a fight, and even recovery boards didn’t magically solve it, so I committed to the ruts and worked my way out. After clearing more off-camber sections and improvising lines to avoid more drama, we finally got back to pavement, washed everything down to prevent corrosion, and I shared how my Renegade RT+ did: great overall, but thick clay is really mud-terrain territory.
