In this video I’m showing you my current recording setup, and honestly this is probably my favorite vocal chain / recording setup that I’ve used in a very long time. If you’ve been on the channel for a minute, you already know I’ve been through a ton of microphones, interfaces, preamps… all of it. So when I say I’m satisfied right now, that’s coming from actually testing a bunch of different options and living with them long enough to know what I like. On the mic side, I’m back on what’s basically my “no debate” favorite: the Neumann TLM 103. I picked up another one and I have no plans of getting rid of it or swapping it out anytime soon (yeah, I still want to try a U87ai one day, but I’m not in a rush). For the interface, I’m using the SSL 2 (not the 2+), and I’ll be real—at this point I feel like it’s been outperforming the Audient iD14 MkII for what I’m doing. I’m also not even using external analog preamps right now; I’m just running the TLM 103 straight into the SSL 2 and getting super clean results. The other big takeaway: a lot of the “magic” is in post-processing, because I’ve been approaching my vocal mixing differently and that’s a huge reason the final vocals are sounding so clean.
