About This Video

So what would it look like if Akai, AIR Music Tech, and MSX Sound Designs came together on one plugin? In this video I demo Lo Fly Dirt (VST) and show you exactly what that looks like inside FL Studio. The whole idea is simple: one big “astronomical” character knob, and you pick a character mode that changes how that knob hits your signal. I’m using it to add gritty saturation, texture, and that lo-fi / boom bap flavor on both my instrument bus and my drum bus. I step through the character modes so you can hear what each one actually does: MSX for basic saturation with a little compression, 60 for that MPC60-style vibe with rounded highs, 404F for SP-404 flavor plus a lowpass filter and some bit reduction, and 404V for more vinyl-style saturation with noise/clicks/pops. Then I get into some of my favorites on drums like 1200 (think beefier 60 with punch and dirt) and SK-5 for highpass filtering and punch, plus 8-bit for that nostalgic game-console vibe on instruments. I also point out there are 70+ presets if you want quick starting points, and I play the full beat with 8-bit on instruments and 1200 on drums—because hearing it in a full mix is the real test.
