James Bond is most famous for wearing the Rolex Submariner and the Omega Seamaster, perhaps more than all his other watches in the franchise. His creator Ian Fleming wore the equally iconic Rolex Explorer 1016, and hence, name dropped the brand throughout the novels. However, what did the real life British intelligence officers wear during the 1960s and into the 1970s, before the quartz crisis? Well, it turns out, most likely, it was a specially issued 36mm version of the Hamilton Khaki, the deliberately inconspicuous GS, which I was lucky and privileged to find a great example of, unbox it, delve into its unique story, and share it with you today. But this being The Urban Gentry, and not the typical watch media, fortuitously, this coincides with a rerelease of the massively iconic Hamilton Khaki King, a pivotal watch I owned in the early days of the channel during my very first EDC video, over a decade ago. It also happens that this year is the 250th anniversary of the United States, and Hamilton with their profound American heritage, which I explored in my previous episode, just released a new 36mm Mechanical during the making of this video. Join me today for a Khaki collection special, as we delve into its history, design evolution, British military past, positives and negatives, specs, and all the rest of it.
