We jumped on live on a Wednesday for episode 122, and right out of the gate we talked real life homestead stuff—predators, schedules changing, and why we’re not interested in turning this channel into an obligation. Rebecca shared a fun (and slightly dangerous) grandma moment explaining the tooth fairy to our four-year-old grandson—plus the weird old-school history behind it (people used to treat kids’ teeth like magical valuables and tried to keep witches from getting them). We also talked about running a two-mile “Moonlight Madness” race with the grandkids and the humbling reality of getting slower over the years—still grateful we’re out there doing it. On the homestead side, I gave an update on what I’ve been focused on: tapering back and automating what I can. I’m dialing in a DIY chicken feeding system by combining a deer feeder with chicken feeders on a timer, and the goal is to go 10 days or more without hand-feeding. I also covered why I don’t like free-feeding (I want chickens scratching and working compost), what still needs tweaking (those water cups getting bumped and turned), and how our battery backup keeps us running when storms knock the grid down.
