About This Video

We’ve been gone a while, and in this episode we finally sit down for a laid-back homestead life update and tell you why. For us it wasn’t that nothing was happening—it was the year of the vehicle: repairs, smogs, breakdowns, and the kind of stuff that just drains your motivation. But we also got a solid reminder that prepping pays off: that “$200 car” we refused to trade in sat out in the sun for years, got a battery and five gallons of gas, and fired right up. Rebecca got tires, an oil change, and it passed smog in flying colors—sometimes hanging onto the old thing is the right call. From there I get into what’s working on the homestead right now—especially composting. Fall is prime time because you’ve got leaves (carbon) and grass clippings (nitrogen), and I talk ratios, mulching leaves so they don’t go anaerobic, and why we keep organic material on-site instead of hauling it off. We also cover chicken yard reality: losing a hen, young pullets growing fast on higher-protein starter, and the constant temptation to turn a chicken into a pet (looking at you, “Bubble”). We wrap with real-life stuff too—my 100-mile race, Rebecca’s fitness reset, pomegranate juice lessons (be smarter than the pomegranate), comfrey salve plans, and the practical idea of freezing meals so dinner doesn’t turn into an 8 p.m. project.
