About This Video

Digital escape rooms can be absolute magic in an online class… or they can turn into a chaotic tech support session if you’re not careful. In this video, I walk you through the teaching mistakes I’ve personally made while using digital escape rooms in Outschool-style live classes, and what I do differently now so the lesson runs smooth and the game stays fun. My whole goal is always the same: keep students engaged without adding hours of prep for me. I break down the biggest “oops” moments that can derail an escape room—like not setting crystal-clear expectations, not planning for pacing and different learner speeds, and not having a simple backup plan when tech gets weird. I also share how I tighten up directions, build in quick check-ins, and structure the experience so students feel successful (instead of stuck). If you’re using Canva, Slides, Nearpod, or any interactive format, these tweaks will help you run a cleaner game, get better participation, and earn those happy “can we do this again?” reactions.
