About This Video

I’ve got another OneDrive video here, and this one is for that super annoying Windows 11 error: “OneDrive can’t move the Documents folder because there is a folder in the same location that can’t be redirected” (and sometimes you’ll also see “access is denied”). In my case, I was on Windows 11 Pro and I had just unlinked and uninstalled OneDrive, but I forgot to turn off the Folder Backup for Desktop/Documents/Pictures/etc. first. So OneDrive left my user folders sitting inside the OneDrive directory, and when I tried to restore the default locations, Windows still acted like it was holding onto the old path. Instead of messing around in the registry (yes, you can fix it that way, but I don’t like recommending that because it can make a system unstable), I show the easiest fix: reinstall OneDrive, keep the existing OneDrive folder, and then properly turn off backup for each folder inside “Manage backup.” I also show you how to right-click and choose “Always keep on this device” so any cloud-only files download locally before you move anything back. After that, I unlink the PC, uninstall OneDrive again, restart, and your folders should be back to their default locations with the Location tab available so you can move them wherever you want.
