My question is about what advice you can give runners who want to try a race that has a bigger emphasis on self-sufficiency. I completed the UTS 50k earlier this year and like many people, ran out of water due to the heat and the long climbs between checkpoints. Some races like the spine and northern traverse have huge gaps between the checkpoints in comparison. How do you approach these races to ensure that you can carry on fuelling and hydrating? Does it involve carrying kgs of supplies along with you? Do you have filters on your bottles to collect water on the go from streams or are there any other secret sources of information you could share? Any advice would be really appreciated and hopefully help other runners as well.
