This year’s iPhone drop came with the usual controversy, so I wanted to share my honest first impressions after about a day and a half with the iPhone 16 Pro Max. I finally stopped being “regular” and went Max this time, and I’ll tell you straight up: the Black Titanium is the move. It’s darker than past blacks, it looks clean, and it low-key has me wanting the black Apple Watch Ultra even more. Design-wise though, let’s be real—this thing looks almost identical to last year, and I’m still salty Apple won’t just bring back Alpine Green. The big “new” thing you’ll notice is the Camera Control button. Quick tap opens the camera, another tap shoots, and the half-press lets you tweak stuff like exposure, depth of field, and zoom. It works once you get used to it, but it’s also finicky—I accidentally press it when picking up my phone or even scrolling Instagram, and it’s worse with the silicone case. Where I actually got excited is the camera upgrades: the ultra-wide is now 48MP (super noticeable for my Instagram posts), and 4K 120fps is honestly insane on a phone. Add the bigger screen, better battery, and 25W MagSafe charging, and you’ve got a solid “S-year” upgrade—but for most people (even most 15 Pro users), I think it’s a pass unless you’re upgrading from something older or you truly use your iPhone as a content creation tool.
