About This Video

In Part 8 of my Unreal Engine 5.1 Endless Runner series, I show you how I add a custom character into the project and properly retarget all the Manny animations so everything still feels clean in-game. For this video I’m using Reallusion Character Creator 4 characters (I’m using “Kevin”), because when I tested MetaHumans I ran into issues during gameplay. Don’t worry—I’ll cover MetaHumans in a separate video once I’ve fixed those problems. If you’re using your own character, you can still follow along, and if your animation fit looks off, you can reach me on Discord/email. We go step-by-step: installing Reallusion Auto Setup (only if you’re on CC4), importing the character correctly (and why “Use T0 as Ref Pose” matters), building an IK Rig with the right retarget chains, and then duplicating + retargeting the ABP_Manny animation blueprint to your character. Since Manny doesn’t give us the slide we need, I also bring in YBot animations, create IK Rigs/Retargeter for YBot → custom character, export the slide/roll, and fix them with Root Motion + Root Lock. Finally, I wire everything into a child character blueprint and use a simple montage array + index switch so the correct slide montage plays for each character. By the end, your custom runner is running and sliding smoothly inside the same Endless Runner setup.
