Welcome back to my channel! Today, we're diving into Unreal Engine 5.4 to explore a brand-new feature: Automatic Retargeting. This feature simplifies the process of retargeting animations, making it quick and easy. It's currently in beta, so you can give it a try in Unreal Engine 5.4 Preview. About This Video

In this video, I’m testing the brand-new Automatic Retargeting feature in Unreal Engine 5.4. It’s currently experimental and only available in the UE 5.4 Preview, but the big win is that it lets you retarget animations in basically a single click. I show you exactly how to install 5.4 Preview from the Epic Games Launcher (Library → plus button next to Engine versions → install 5.4 Preview), and then I jump straight into a practical retargeting test. For the demo, I’m using Mixamo animations. I import a Mixamo skeletal mesh and the animations into a dedicated folder, and I also point out that Mixamo often brings in extra T-pose animations that are useless—so you can delete those. Then I right-click any animation → Retarget Animations, pick my target skeletal mesh, and make sure “Auto Generate Retargeter” is enabled. After that, I can just double-click an animation to preview it, and the retarget result comes out perfect without manually building IK rigs and retargeters. Finally, I cover export options: Export Animations for the clips you need, and Export Retarget Assets to automatically generate and export the IK Rigs for both characters plus the IK Retargeter. That button is a huge time-saver compared to older workflows.
