In this video I break down the reality of removing your personal information from the internet. Yes, you can do it manually: find the site that’s posting your data (Whitepages-style data brokers), fill out their opt-out form, then come back later to confirm it’s gone—and then check again months later to make sure it didn’t get republished. The catch is that if you want to do this “entirely,” you’re basically signing up to repeat that process a few thousand times, a couple times a year. I also explain why this problem exists in the first place: there’s an entire industry built to collect, sell, and profit off your personal data, and breaches have exposed billions of records—addresses, phone numbers, even Social Security numbers—so that data starts getting traded around. To figure out which removal tool actually works, I had different team members test services independently so no one service got credit for removals another service already did. After comparing the big names like DeleteMe and Incogni, the one that stood out for me was Optery—especially because it shows screenshot proof of what was posted before removal, offers plans beyond annual-only commitments, and in our head-to-head testing it removed data from far more sites (385 vs 122).
