Most parents make the same mistake when they’re comparing parental control apps: they trust the company-made comparison charts with all the green checkmarks. I tested Aura and Qustodio head-to-head, and the real deciding factor isn’t a checklist—it’s whether you’ll enjoy using it or get frustrated and switch in a few months. I break down the one main reason you’d pick Qustodio over Aura (text message monitoring, and also location tracking), and who that realistically matters for. I also flag a concern parents should at least be aware of: Qustodio was called out in a scathing 2020 ACM review for security flaws (maybe fixed now, but still not a great look). Then I show why I personally prefer Aura day-to-day: the interface is cleaner, setup is genuinely fast (about 10 minutes), and the controls are easy to find when you actually need them—especially “Pause the Internet.” On top of that, Aura is a broader digital security suite (VPN, antivirus, credit monitoring, data broker removal), so for most families it’s the more practical, safer all-in-one choice.
