Good day divers—this one’s a short muck diving session from one of my favourite sites: Batu Ringgit near Tulamben, Bali. It’s low season, so it’s a bit overcast and the visibility isn’t great, but the trade-off is brilliant: way fewer people. If you stay in Tulamben, you can get those first and last dives of the day with hardly anyone around—on this trip I was the only diver on the site for those dives, which is pretty uncommon here. All the footage you see was shot across two dives in pretty ordinary conditions, and I kept it simple: a smartphone setup that still delivers. I’m using a Google Pixel 10 Pro XL in a Divevolk Platinum housing, with Divevolk SL20 and SL50 lights, plus the Divevolk +18 macro lens for the small stuff muck diving is famous for. The main takeaway isn’t “buy more gear”—it’s technique: I finish with my tip for the day, which is to always try and be down current of your subject. It makes it easier to face into the current, stops you getting pushed over the top of your subject, and if you stir up particles they go behind you instead of ruining your shot.
