G’day divers — in this video I put the Samsung S26 Ultra through a real underwater test, bugs and all, and I’m talking about it purely as a camera (because I buy phones because they’re cameras, not because they’re phones). I go through what you can realistically expect if you’re using it predominantly underwater: the current software bugs that matter, the hardware limitations that won’t get fixed, and the headline “features” Samsung markets that I think are either limited or straight-up gimmicky for underwater work. On the bug side, the big ones are third‑party app issues: the 3x RAW exposure/display bug and, much worse, manual focus being basically unusable in every third‑party app due to what looks like a Samsung API problem (manual focus is fine in the Samsung camera app). Hardware-wise, the screen is dull (fine underwater with brightness/boost, painful above water), and the 5x focuses too far out for underwater unless you’re using a wet lens. Then I get into what it does well: it’s seriously powerful (Motion Cam Pro flies), the Samsung camera app is miles ahead of Google and iOS for pro controls, and APV + Samsung Log is genuinely impressive — to the point where, once the manual focus bug is fixed, this could be one of the best “pro” phone video tools going around.
