About This Video

In this video, I showed you how to host your first website on a VPS server in under 30 minutes. I started from the point where you’ve already bought your VPS, then I logged in through SSH (I used Command Prompt, but the same thing works on Linux/Mac terminal). After that, I updated and upgraded the server for security, created a new user (because it’s not always advisable to run everything as root), and added that user to the sudo group so you still get admin permissions when you need it. Next, I set the hostname (I recommend using something like server.yourdomain.com), edited the hosts file, and installed Apache2 to get the web server running. I tested the install by visiting the VPS IP in the browser, then uploaded site files into /var/www/html. I also showed you the FileZilla method for easy uploads, plus the common “permission denied” issue and how I fix it with a quick ownership command (chown) so your new user can manage the web directory. Finally, I covered PHP setup and troubleshooting. If your site is PHP and you see raw code, you need to install PHP and restart Apache. If you get a 500 error, I showed you how I create a quick test.php to confirm whether the server is fine and the script is the problem. Then I connected the domain by updating the A record, explained why HTTPS fails without SSL, and walked through Let’s Encrypt (Certbot) — including the reality that you may need to wait for full DNS propagation before SSL will issue successfully.
