In this vlog, I’m taking you with me for a day in the life as a software engineer—except this time I’m working from the Amazon Toronto office. Toronto is three hours ahead of Vancouver, so I’m honestly running on fumes (aka jet-lag + coffee), and I start my morning the same way I usually do: checking emails, scanning my meeting schedule for surprise invites, and trying to get ahead before my coworkers are even online. I also walk through what I’m working on—like drafting a deployment approval doc and doing operational work (the behind-the-scenes maintenance that keeps services running smoothly). It’s not the flashy “I built a new feature” kind of work, but it’s a huge part of the job. One of the best parts of the day is getting to see my friend Christine (we met during my Amazon internship), catch up, and finally try her favorite pizza spot—literally a 9.2/10 slice. I also share my honest intern advice: say yes to events to meet people, communicate clearly, ask questions without being scared, and be smart about return offers. After work, we switch into full tourist mode—exploring UofT (major Hogwarts vibes), wandering around neighborhoods with murals and personality, cafe-hopping for more coffee, and ending the day with my first Philly cheesesteak. Cozy work day + city exploring is kind of my ideal combo.
