About This Video

Today I’m saying goodbye to my childhood house, and it’s… extremely bittersweet. There are so many good memories in those walls, but after everything that happened with my mom, I don’t blame my dad at all for wanting to let it go. The past couple years have been heavy—our challenging preemie birth, watching my daughter grow into the best toddler ever, then losing my mom to brain cancer within nine months, and shortly after, losing my grandparents too. So this video is a life update, a chapter closing, and me trying to find ways to breathe again without pretending any of it didn’t matter. I also take you along as we step into a new season: we’re about to renovate our place, so I’m filming the “before” and setting up for the in-progress and finished updates. And then—plot twist—I texted the owners of the house we’ve been renting, threw out a high number, and they said yes. Suddenly we’re buying the house. It’s not my Pinterest dream home, but having a kid changes what “home” even means: neighborhood, community, stability. Plus, I share a very unglamorous self-employed money tip: shop your mortgage rates (within the same week), and consider a broker. Then we do some tiny home upgrades—because apparently I’m the type of person who gets genuinely excited about a fixed door handle and dishwasher-friendly plates.
