How to Make Deep-Tech Funding by Matching Investors' Capital and Grants? sTARTUp Day is the biggest business festival in the Baltics, bringing together over 4000 startup-minded people to celebrate entrepreneurship in the smart city of Tartu. It’s a three-day festival with a marvelous stage program, effective matchmaking, hands-on seminars, an exhibition area full of innovation, and vibrant side events. Bernd Fesel has experience in the Cultural and Creative Sectors and Industries (CCSI) for over 30 years and is currently the Interim Chief Executive Officer of the EIT Culture & Creativity. Prior to this, Bernd was a serial entrepreneur within the CCSI sector: He held the role of director of the European Creative Business Network, as vice director of the European Capital of Culture in the Ruhr Region, and was senior advisor to the legacy institute of RUHR.2010 until 2018: the European center for creative economy in Dortmund. He also played a key role in EU initiatives such as JRC-Creative City Monitor, Voices for Culture program, and ENCATC. Mart Maasik is an executive with 20 years of international business experience in the financial sector. He has studied innovation management at Stanford GSB and has co-founded several ecosystem movements (Ajujaht, Innovation Leaders Club). He has personal experiences as an entrepreneur and an angel investor. Since 2021, Mart has been focusing on creating a sustainable platform UniTartu Ventures, where research-based entrepreneurship and early-stage investors meet. Heidi Kakko has been contributing to building up the early-stage ecosystem in Estonia for more than a decade. She has helped to advance all stages of innovation funding – from prototyping as an expert jury of Prototron Foundation and mentoring for several incubators and accelerators to the growth phase as a partner of BaltCap Growth Fund. Heidi has set up the first venture funds of SmartCap and managed EstBAN. Her latest focus has been put on the early stage deep tech companies supporting the scientists to develop superior technologies into business ventures. Heidi served as a Pilot Advisory Board member and an Investment Committee member of the EIC Fund. She has recently taken a role of a lead investor for deep tech companies' seed round syndicates.
