When I heard Marc Scibilia’s “More to This,” I knew it belonged on the channel. This is one of those songs that doesn’t just sound good—it sits with you. Marc told me he wrote it as a response to his five-year-old daughter after she asked him about death and what it meant, and you can feel that weight in every line. He’s “been thinking about dying,” about “skin and bones give up the ghost,” and what happens after—all of it wrapped in a melody that carries the questions without trying to tidy them up. What hits me is how honest the song is about living in the in-between. One voice says “this is it,” another says “we live again,” and most of the time we’re somewhere in the middle, just trying to make sense of love and loss. The chorus lands like a dare: “Don’t you dare tell me that there ain’t more to this.” It’s grief, hope, and wonder all braided together—tears begging for laughter, and a promise to love somebody forever. That’s the kind of writing I’m always chasing for these Appalachian/Americana sessions: real people telling the truth.
