Josiah and the Bonnevilles rolled up on me in a well-traveled, well-kept 90’s Chevy and we set up around the Williamson, WV / Belfry, KY area for a few live session takes. This video is “Basic Channels,” and it’s one of those songs that originally hooked me on Josiah—then it just lived in my head for a long time. The whole thing feels like Appalachian common sense in melody form: a little house out of town, highs and lows when the sky comes down, and still choosing to hold on tight. What I love about this tune is how it frames the “big dream” as something simple—“you and me and the basic channels.” It’s not flashy, it’s not trying to impress anybody, it’s just real life: growing old easy, staying warm through the storm, letting the past turn into ancient history, and building something that lasts. It reminds me of my wife and the important things in life, and that’s exactly why I wanted to capture it the way we do at radiowv—real music, real people, real culture.
