I’m pushing my custom Python-based VTuber avatar beyond face tracking and into full puppeteering and gameplay-style control. In this update, I show how I’m using a gamepad to control the character’s hands, movement, and interactions — effectively turning the avatar into a playable character inside her own 2D world. This project started as a pixel art VTuber experiment, but it’s quickly becoming something closer to a game engine, performance tool, and expressive avatar system all rolled into one. I talk through the design decisions, control mapping, and how I’m thinking about “game-ifying” the avatar without losing expressiveness.
