How can you tell when grain spawn is ready to to add to bulk substrate? When is the mycelium done growing in a grain jar and ready to be spawned to straw, manure, or similar bulk substrate? There are a few ways you can tell: full colonization of the grain in the jar by the mycelium, thick spots of solid white, and the mycelium growing up the side of the jar looking for more grain, substrate or fresh air (FAE, fresh air exchange) to begin fruiting.
