About This Video

In this video, I’m testing what lead tape actually does to a pickleball paddle—because “more weight = more power” is only part of the story. I start with a lightweight, standard-shape paddle and then add weight in specific locations (5 & 7 o’clock, 3 & 9 o’clock, 12 o’clock, and lower/mid placements). After each change, I measure what’s happening using a HEAD 4:1 Diagnostic Machine so we’re not guessing—we’re looking at real swingweight and twistweight changes. The big takeaway: where you place the weight matters as much as how much you add. If you’re chasing more pop and heavier drives, adding weight up top is going to influence how the paddle swings and how much mass you’re bringing through the ball. If you want more stability—especially in fast hands battles at the kitchen—side weighting is the move because it helps resist twisting on off-center hits. I also test combining multiple locations so you can see how these effects stack, then I wrap it all up with a simple recap to help you choose a lead tape strategy for power vs control.
