In this video I’m back to talk about the Fluval Flex 2.0 after running it for a few months. I set this one up at the end of last year, and I crammed a 20-gallon aquascaper kit into a 15-gallon Flex… so yeah, it’s got more rock than you’d normally see in a “kit” build. I still love the Flex’s inverted-bowl front—looking down into the tank is super satisfying—but it’s also a bit hard to photograph because focus can get weird. Pro tip: if a side panel is visible, scape for that side too, because the flat view looks awesome and the curved front can even make the tank feel bigger with reflections. Fluval did make some legit improvements on the 2.0. The hinged lid is a big quality-of-life upgrade (I’ve had the old lids slide off way too many times), and the back filtration layout feels different in a good way—water levels stay more even across the chambers and I’m seeing less of the usual surface muck. The stock light is “pretty good” but still basically an on/off LED with some remote color/temperature options; I miss the nicer Fluval control where it ramps up in the morning and fades out at night, so I’ll probably mod the light. The one change I made immediately was the pump. The included pump was strong enough to make a river tank, but it was pushing my fish around and loosening the scape, so I swapped in a smaller adjustable pump from my local fish store. Overall: solid iteration, moving in the right direction, and if you’re shopping—consider the 2.0 over the older Flex unless you find a ridiculous sale.
