They're super pigmented and opaque, which is great, but I found controlling the ink flow a bit tricky, especially compared to traditional paints. After a few attempts, I figured out a technique that worked for me, and I'm happy with the results! Still getting used to them, but I'm loving exploring new mediums and expanding my skills. These markers are definitely a good option for beginners who want to try out highly opaque colors. If you're more experienced, you might eventually want to upgrade for finer control and blending. Thinking of doing some mini-illustrations with these next! But first, more portrait practice to master these little guys. What are your experiences with acrylic markers? About This Video

In this cozy little session, I’m trying acrylic markers for the first time and figuring them out in real time. Lightwish kindly sent me their acrylic paint pens, so I tested them on Canson and Fabriano watercolor paper to see how the opacity, pigmentation, and overall feel compares to the way I usually paint. The biggest thing I noticed right away is how super pigmented and opaque they are—like, you can get bold coverage fast, which is honestly really satisfying for sketchbook-style pieces and studies. But I’m not gonna lie, controlling the ink flow took me a bit. Compared to traditional paints, the markers felt a little tricky at first, especially when I wanted cleaner edges or more gradual transitions. After a few attempts though, I found a technique that worked better for me, and the results started looking way more like what I had in my head. I’m still getting used to them, but I love exploring new mediums like this because it pushes my skills and gives me new options for portraits and mini illustrations. If you’re a beginner and you want highly opaque color without mixing paint, these are a really solid start—if you’re more experienced, you might eventually want something with finer control and blending.
