About This Video

Hey friends! In this video I’m doing a fun little watercolor experiment: painting the exact same sunflower in three different sizes. The whole point is to really notice what changes when you go tiny versus when you give yourself a bigger space to play—how much detail you can fit, how loose you can stay, and how your brush and water control have to shift depending on the scale. As I work through each size, I’m paying attention to the stuff that actually matters in real life painting sessions: how easy it is to overwork a small piece, how much more forgiving a larger wash can be, and how planning shapes and values becomes way more important when you don’t have room for “extra” petals. I’m also using some of my go-to watercolor supplies (paper, brushes, and a Daniel Smith color mix) to keep the comparison fair. If you’ve ever wondered why your mini paintings feel tight or why big paintings feel intimidating, this is such a good practice session—come paint sunflowers with me and try the three-size challenge too.
