Hey friends! In this video I’m stepping outside my comfort zone—because I mostly paint florals—and attempting a watercolor landscape for the first time on the channel. The whole point is to learn something new in real time, let it be a little scary, and keep painting anyway. I talk through my mindset as I go, because I genuinely believe it’s absolutely okay to fail (and honestly, it’s necessary if we want to grow). So if landscapes feel intimidating, this is your sign to grab your brush and try. For supplies, I keep things simple and focus on playing with color: Meeden watercolor paper, Holbein Soft Tape for clean edges, a little porcelain mixing dish, and a Holbein-heavy color lineup (Aureolin, Gamboge Nova, Pyrrole Red, Quinacridone Magenta, Cobalt Violet, Ultramarine Light, Terre Verte, plus the Holbein granulating set). I’m not trying to be perfect—I’m trying to practice. My biggest takeaway: learning happens when we give ourselves permission to make “messy” paintings, test mixes, and enjoy the process instead of only chasing the finished result.
