In this video I’m out on a hot, humid Minnesota day (mid-90s kind of heat) to show you my no-build truck camping setup and answer the question I get more times than I can count: why I sleep in the backseat instead of buying a truck topper. I’m a big guy, and I need to be able to sit up, prop up, and actually move around. Add to that the fact that I use my truck bed all the time, and a topper just doesn’t make sense for how I live. I walk you through my full backseat “camper” in my 2013 Chevy Silverado crew cab—starting with the Pittman Outdoors backseat air mattress (with the footwell insert for extra shoulder room) and the tiny Aerogogo pump that inflates it fast. Inside the cab I show my ridgeline for hanging a fan, keys, and lights, plus how I power my ICECO fridge off my AllPowers station and keep condensation under control with a camp towel. I also cover my window options—from bug nets to Reflectix panels—so you can stay cooler, darker, and more private. Bottom line: this setup is comfortable, practical, and it lets me keep using my truck like a truck.
