In this video I review the HiBy R1, HiBy’s smallest (and cheapest) DAP yet at around $85, running HiBy OS (non-Android). I spent about a week with this tiny cutesy player and went through the specs (CS43131 DAC, Ingenic X1600, Bluetooth 5.1, 2.4GHz Wi‑Fi, up to 2TB microSD), build, and the surprisingly crisp 3-inch 800x480 IPS touchscreen. It’s plastic all around so don’t expect “premium,” but the glass back/front and the fun translucent look are honestly pretty cool for the price. I also dig into real-world usage: you can’t install apps like Spotify, but you do get TIDAL and Qobuz streaming (very barebones, but it works). Wi‑Fi enables DLNA/AirPlay importing, and the UI is a big step up—more colorful, faster album browsing, and the drop-down menu is finally actually functional (brightness where it should be). Feature-wise, I talk about Soundfield (stage-widening effect) and the A-B repeat mode for quick passage looping. The biggest “gotcha” is the volume lock (legal limitation for China/EU). Once you unlock it in Developer Options, power is totally fine for most IEMs (70mW nominal, 101mW max ~1.5Vrms), but don’t expect it to run hard planars. Sound-wise it’s detailed and transparent with a bit of treble emphasis, so I liked it best with warmer IEMs—and for entry-level DAP buyers, I genuinely think the R1 is a crazy good value.
