Join Obie as he reviews the Kiwi Ears Aether, a budget planar IEM with detailed separation, layering, and a neutral tuning. Comfortable but large, it excels in analytical listening for genres like Jazz and R&B, though treble sharpness may be a concern. How does it compare to the competition? Find out in the review! About This Video

In this video I review the Kiwi Ears Aether and answer the big question: is this actually the hyped “best planar under $200,” or is it just internet noise? I break it down from unboxing (one of the best-looking Kiwi Ears packages I’ve seen) to build and fit—because yes, this is a big IEM thanks to the 15.3mm full-size planar driver. If you’ve got smaller ears, I’m so sorry, but with medium to larger ears and some tip rolling (I ended up on my usual TRI Clarions), you can make it work. Sound-wise, the Aether is what I’d call a blend of traditional and modern planar: it keeps that planar brightness and detail, but adds a bit of musicality and warmth so it doesn’t go full sterile. Bass is controlled, punchy, and fast without smearing the mids; mids are clean and transparent; treble is crisp and revealing, but can get sharp if you crank the volume. I also talk pairing (warmer sources help; bright sources are for masochists) and why this is more of a medium-to-low volume set. Finally, I compare it against the F1 Pro, Tangzu Zetian Wu (Legend), Letshuoer S12, and Simgot ET142, then wrap it up: for $169–$170, this is a fantastically technical, analytical, but well-balanced planar that still keeps the “soul” of sets like the S12/Timeless without getting grainy or edgy.
