A monoprint is a form of printmaking in which an image is made from a smooth surface or ‘plate’ coated in printing ink such as a sheet of glass or metal. In contrast with other printing techniques, only one final image is made, making the technique closer to drawing or painting than other print processes. Alfons Bytautas RSA is an artist working in Newcastle. In this video, filmed at the Printmaking Studio at Northumbria University, Alfons demonstrates the process of creating a monoprint. Alfons recently retired as Principal Technician at Northumbria University, and is currently co-director of Alfons is also co-director of Incubate Experimental Printmaking studio https://incubateprintmaking.com/ For more information on Monoprint | National Galleries of Scotland
