About This Video

I made a video begging y’all to sit on the floor more, and whew… it put some of you into a conniption. So this is my follow-up to clarify what I actually mean. I’m not saying “the floor is the only way” or that you need to throw out your chairs. I’m about diversity of movement—moving your body in all the ways it was designed to move—throughout your day. And obviously this isn’t for everyone: if you’ve had knee surgeries, injuries, or anything that limits your range of motion, talk to a medical professional. I can’t give medical advice. What I am saying is simple: if at some point in your life you could get down to the floor and back up, and now you can’t mostly because you just don’t do it anymore… it’s worth bringing that back. I’m motivated by real life: aging parents, fall risk, and the fear of losing independence. Sitting on the floor (sometimes with a cushion), sleeping on a firmer setup (I use a futon), and using a floor-to-standing desk are “low-effort” ways I’ve built mobility into my day—especially because, as an AuDHD mom, I’m not consistent with formal routines. I also talk about the sit-to-rise test and why I care less about the exact leg-crossing rules and more about the core skill: being comfortable getting up off the floor if you need to. Start small—use your couch or a wall, sit on the floor while watching TV, and work on basics like push-ups—because the stakes are your future independence.
