About This Video

In part 4 of my maternity leave planning series, I’m taking you through the step that makes everything feel real: the binder. This is the “putting it all together” phase where I stop juggling loose papers and random files and start organizing everything in a way that’s actually usable day-to-day. I walk you through how I compile my plans, routines, and the important classroom info my substitute will need so they can step in confidently (and so I can breathe a little easier, too). I also share how I’m thinking about pacing and keeping things simple and consistent while I’m out—because the goal isn’t to create extra work for someone else, it’s to set them (and my students) up for success. If you’re planning for maternity leave or even just prepping for a long-term sub, this video is all about creating one go-to spot for your plans, notes, and expectations so nothing gets missed. The countdown is on, and this binder is my way of making sure my classroom can run smoothly while I’m focusing on baby and real life.
