In this video I did a true drugstore foundation showdown on my 56-year-old dry, mature skin: Maybelline 30 Hour Lumi Matte on one side and the brand new (in Canada!) NYX Make ‘Em Wonder Soft Matte Buildable Foundation on the other. I don’t usually gravitate to anything “matte” (it’s normally a no-go for me), but I kept hearing mixed reviews and I wanted to see what would actually happen on real mature skin—fine lines, dryness and all. I prepped with skincare, my SPF 50 (it gives that pretty luminosity), and a water-based grippy primer, then applied each foundation with a brush and wore them through the day with no powder and no setting spray. My takeaway? They’re surprisingly similar. The Maybelline side kept a slight edge for radiance (that luminous matte look I actually enjoy), while the NYX side stayed more matte—but it didn’t cling to dry patches and it didn’t settle into my fine lines, which is always the big test for me. After check-ins around 10:30, 1:25, and 4:30, both wore beautifully and felt lightweight. If you already own the Maybelline, I don’t think you need to run out and replace it—but if you’re oilier or want a more matte finish, NYX could be a great option.
