The HD560S is one of the most hyped headphone releases of 2020. A new audiophile focused product from Sennheiser is usually excited. This time an even more updated version of a HD500 series headphone. Many have hailed this as the HD6XX killer, but is it actually? Big thanks to The Source AV with giving me a discount on these! About This Video

In this video I finally sit down with one of the most hyped headphone releases of 2020: the Sennheiser HD560S. I go over the basics (price, 120 ohm driver, weight), then talk build, accessories, and comfort. Spoiler: the build feels pretty cheap for $200—thin plastics, sharp molding edges, and a janky 10-foot “spaghetti” cable—though the headband padding is soft and comfort is generally solid for a 500-series Sennheiser. The real focus is the sound, and the HD560S is tuned shockingly well. Bass extends almost flat to 20Hz with only slight roll-off, the mids are pretty flat, and the treble is largely neutral with no nasty peaks—overall it tracks close to Harman, just without the Harman bass shelf. My main FR nitpick is it could use a touch more air above 10k. Then I address the elephant in the room: “HD6XX killer?” For me, no. The 6XX has better detail, timbre, and bass texture (even if it rolls off), while the 560S mainly fights back with bass extension and a bit more stage. If you’re in the US, I’d still take the 6XX for basically the same money; outside the US where 600-series pricing jumps, the 560S becomes a much easier recommendation.
