The Conductor 3XP from Burson Audio is a very interesting offering. Coming in at a whopping $1344, it is not a cheap unit by any means. It also includes the unique addition of a microphone input. This means it is more or less the most expensive DAC/Amp combo to my knowledge that can take a mic input, making it a useful unit for those with gaming headsets. Thanks to Burson for loaning me the 3XP for this review. About This Video

In this video I review the Burson Conductor 3XP (3X Performance), a $1344 all-in-one DAC/amp combo that’s genuinely weird—in a good way—because it’s Class A and it has a microphone input. That combo basically doesn’t exist at this price point, since mic-input DAC/amps are usually cheaper “gaming” units like the Fulla, Hel, ARC, or GSX 1000. I go over the core specs, inputs/outputs (including USB-C, XLR, RCA, optical, coax, Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX), and the general build quality, which is very solid with a full metal chassis and that finned Burson look. I also touch on Burson’s MCPS power supply tech (they push the switching frequency up to 170 kHz to keep noise out of the audible band). Practically speaking, the unit is quiet, but how much that matters is up for debate. My biggest usability complaint is the volume control: it jumps from basically nothing to loud at “1,” then takes forever to climb because the steps feel tiny. The remote helps, but it’s still slow. Sound-wise, I’d call it a warm-bright tilt that reminds me of iFi—without the typical ESS glare I often hear from Sabre DACs. It’s an improvement over my Magnius/Modius stack in detail and staging, but I do think it’s a little soft in macro dynamics and bass punch. It’s a niche product, but if you specifically want a powerful Class A all-in-one with Bluetooth and a mic input, I can recommend it.
