In this video I finally put the two desk shelves that basically defined the desk setup world side by side: the Grovemade Desk Shelf and the BALOLO Setup Cockpit. I tested both in solid walnut to keep it fair, and I walk through the full experience—assembly, design details, materials, build quality, ergonomics, cable management, and what they’re actually like to live with on a daily basis. Spoiler: they’re way more different than most people think. Aesthetically, I lean Grovemade. The sharper profile, the “designer” look of the aluminum tray (even though I don’t love the rough texture), and the silky-smooth finish make it feel like a luxury statement piece. But if you care about pure functionality, BALOLO is the GOAT. The modular grid system, the felt-lined trays that feel smooth to use, and the overall ecosystem approach (even extending to their desk) make it insanely practical and futureproof. After using both for a long time, my personal favorite is BALOLO—because my workflow changes, and I’m obsessed with a setup that can adapt.
