Most important was the origin of the name, which came from an executive at Douglas Aviation who wanted the drink named after the project they were working on, The Saturn V rocket. The next interesting find was an interview with Popo Galsini where he said you could make the drink with gin, vodka, or rum. While not groundbreaking, it shows how often we put too much emphasis on something, like exact ingredients, when the drink's creator was not nearly as precious. The alternative methods with vodka or rum make sense since mid-century drinks would commonly swap out a spirit based on preference and Vodka was becoming more and more popular. Do you need to abandon gin for vodka or rum in your Saturn?
