The drink was most likely created by Wil P Taylor or someone around him when he was the manager at the Hotel Nacional in Cuba. The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book gives credit to Wil P Taylor for not only creating the drink, but as being the final bar manager at the Old Waldorf-Astoria before it closed in 1929.
