About This Video

It is moving day part… I’m not sure anymore, because this has been the slowest, most phased move ever—but we are officially getting our new coastal Maine house ready to actually live in. My dad is my number one helper (truly), we meet the movers, and the whole vibe is “organized, disorganized chaos.” We extended the U-Haul instead of doing a storage unit because the cost was pretty comparable, and honestly it just made more sense with all the housework happening in phases. The movers were unreal—so careful with my brand new floors (my number one concern), and somehow got the fridge back inside with their bare hands like it was nothing. After the big unload, I shift into full “make it feel like home” mode—especially for Annie. My biggest goal is having her room as close to 100% ready as possible before she walks in, so she has one calm, familiar space even if the rest of the house is chaos. I patch holes, sand, clean baseboards (because oils, guys—the oils), and caulk the little cracks along the trim so paint looks clean. Then it’s go-time: Jack starts painting, we schedule a deep clean (everything except the floors), and we get the locks changed once all the workers are out. It’s a lot, but it’s the kind of busy that feels like we’re finally in, baby.
