Tonight I’m shouting out our go-to Chinese takeout spot near Portland, Maine—because we’re always filming the “special occasion” places, but this one deserves the hype. It’s Evergreen Chinese in South Portland, and I’m not being dramatic when I say it’s above any other Chinese takeout we’ve tried around here. No shade, no tea… it’s just the best. It’s family-owned, the people are genuinely the sweetest, and even the way they package everything (yes, I notice this!) feels so thoughtful—like putting the cardboard base in the bag so everything stays level. We grabbed crab rangoon (that crunch!), chicken fingers, and their hot and sour soup, which is truly the perfect amount of hot, the perfect amount of sour—honestly the perfect amount of soup. For mains, we did General Tso (Jack’s favorite), and the dish that originally gave us that bug-eyed first-bite moment years ago: their lo mein. I can’t even fully explain it—there’s just this boosted flavor that keeps us coming back. And everything is always insanely fresh and hot, even after sitting for a while, which is so underrated for takeout.
