I was on the beach and this random family moment absolutely wrecked me—in the most tender way. I watched this big, multi-generation crew (chairs everywhere, aunts/uncles/cousins vibes) doing their thing, and then I saw a dad start walking his kids down toward the water like, “You ready? Okay, let’s go,” holding their hands. Out of nowhere, this little toddler—barely a toddler but walking—runs up to grab onto one of the kids’ hands too. The dad doesn’t even notice she joined the line, and the mom quietly follows to make sure she’s okay… and suddenly it’s this perfect little family scene heading straight for the waves. Then I catch movement in the corner of my eye: a grandmother absolutely BOOKING IT with her phone, sprinting up behind them without announcing herself, just to capture the candid moment. She’s zooming in, zooming out, taking a million photos before anyone even realizes she’s there—until a kid turns around and the whole family finally notices. It hit me so hard thinking about what it must feel like to watch your kids live the same years you lived with them, but now with their own kids. And it made me think about the old beach photos in my own family albums—how those “ordinary” moments end up being forever. Motherhood is seriously destroying me.
