For me, that’s lighting, yes—but it’s also giving your home a signature scent and a soundtrack, the same way hotels and restaurants curate vibes so you never want to leave. My personal go-to is a woodsy, smoky, spicy scent (hibi incense matches are my favorite), plus music that makes the space feel alive—vinyl crackle, jazz, funk, Italian disco, or even a non-AI lo-fi channel I’ve been loving. Then I get into the “stop decorating, start curating” mindset. If your home feels cluttered, it’s often because functional items are out in the open and you don’t like looking at them—so I talk about slowly swapping those pieces for things that do their job and also feel intentional (like the sculptural, handmade citrus juicer I replaced mine with). I also share what’s inspiring me right now—off-white lacquer, dark chocolate brown with powder blue, heavier utilitarian blankets (I’m kind of sick of tassels), windowpane/tartan patterns, block prints, and organic art mediums like watercolor and oil pastel.
